These bars where kind of accidents. I had these beautiful sprouted hemp seeds and had to come up with a recipe, something I would not have to eat right away since I was not hungry at all. So I through some ingredients together and later was so surprised how yummy they are. The have the right amaount of sweetness to satisfy your craving for a chocolate bar from the vending maching, with tons of refined sugar to spike up your blood sugar level and to crash right after. Further you matcha to give you that nice energy boost and the sprouted hemp seeds will add some healthy protein.
I promise to come back with some more “how to” pictures, next time I make the recipe. The only other option would have been you would need to wait much longer for the recipe, believe not really fair. You do need this recipe since it is so good. Do not even know where to start with all the goodies that are part of the recipe. Unfortunately the finale of one of my favorite TV shows, it is a cooking show, “The Taste” was on today, so not enough time for some in between pictures. I will try my best to descripe what and how I made those Matcha Sprouted Hemp Bars. First, which is a bit unfortunate you will need to sprout some hemp seeds. I use a sprouting glas for my seeds. It is this glas with a strainer as a lit and the strainer also has a little stand so the access water can leave the glas so your seeds do not mold.
I started sprouting seeds and grains around one week ago. In the next days I will come up with a post about the process of sprouting grains and seeds and why they are so healthy. Here is a quick one about the healthy benefits of sprouting.
Why are sprouted seeds and grains healthier?
- Sprouted grains have less starch. Because the sprouting process means the outer layer splits and the young shoot comes out, this alters the build of the grain, seed.
- The proportion of fiber and protein rises compared to the starch which means a lower glycemic index. Your blood sugar level will stay more stable.
- Through the sprouting the level of vitamins within rises.
- Sprouted grains and seeds are mostly easier to digest.
Important when sprouting you need to keep everything very clean and rinse your sprouts regularly or you will have a rise of bacteria within them and all the positive points above are not not valid anymore.
So you need to think a head when you want to make these Matcha Sprouted Hemp Bars. You might be able to also make them with regular, non sprouted hemp but I would imagine they would taste much different. These bars are perfect to take them with you when you are travelling, always a problem when you are gluten-free or store them in your office. I started sprouting my hemp seeds three days prior to making these bars. You should also be fine with two or four but not less then two. For the Supergreen I use a mixture of wheatgras, spirulina and chlorella for example like the one from SUPER GREENS | Veggie Greens Superfood Powder – 20 Organic Ingredients: Spirulina, Chlorella, Spinach, Broccoli, Barley Grass + More – Plus Organic Fruits, Probiotics, and Enzymes | Non-GMO, No Soy. Nice way to add some additional vitamins and minerals. I also like adding mine to Joghurt or Smoothies.
